Culture and Entrepreneurship

My dissertation focuses on the intersection of culture and entrepreneurship: how do individual and regional cultural forces affect the ability of entrepreneurs to get the capital they need to start their businesses. The crux of my research is how to define the cultural processes at work. Does nationality or ethnicity affect the ability of entrepreneurs to get loans from family or friends? What about the regional culture’s role in the availability of capital?

Though this research is just in its beginning stages, I will most likely look at software entrepreneurs in Waterloo, Ottawa and Calgary.
